UPDF Soldiers Foil Kidnapping Attempt, Rescue Child Bound for DRC

In a daring operation, Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers have rescued a child who was being kidnapped from Mengo and smuggled into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The rescue mission was executed on Monday, July 21, after police received a tip-off about the kidnapping.

According to Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusoke Kituuma, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 30 million shillings. However, thanks to the swift action of the UPDF soldiers, the child was rescued, and the kidnapper was apprehended.

The suspect, identified as 17-year-old Amani Jasteri from Mujore Village in the DRC, is currently in custody. The police are investigating the incident and working to identify any other suspects who may have been involved in the kidnapping.

This incident highlights the growing concern of kidnapping in Uganda, with multiple cases reported almost every year. The bravery and quick thinking of the UPDF soldiers have been praised, and their actions have brought relief to the child's family and the community at large.

The rescue mission is a testament to the effectiveness of the security forces in Uganda and their commitment to protecting the citizens. As the investigation continues, the police are urging anyone with information about the kidnapping to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
