Freedom Fighters Face Justice: Eddy Mutwe and Colleagues Return to Court

On August 14th, 2025, Eddy Mutwe, Gaddafi Mugumya, Achileo Kivumbi, and Smart Wa Bobi will stand trial in Masaka, Uganda. These individuals, known for their unwavering dedication to the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader, Bobi Wine, have been accused of various crimes. However, their supporters argue that their only offense is believing in a better future for Uganda.

The quartet has faced intense persecution, including abduction, torture, and imprisonment. Eddy Mutwe, in particular, was subjected to inhumane treatment in the basement of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Yoweri Museveni. This incident highlights the arrogance and impunity that have become hallmarks of the current regime.

While Eddy Mutwe and his colleagues face trial, many Ugandans question the justice system's priorities. Ministers accused of embezzling national funds, land grabbers who displace the poor, and security operatives implicated in human rights abuses continue to enjoy freedom and comfort.

Eddy Mutwe, Gaddafi Mugumya, Achileo Kivumbi, and Smart Wa Bobi have become symbols of resistance against tyranny. Their bravery and conviction inspire many Ugandans to stand up for their rights and demand a better future. As they return to court, their supporters will be watching closely, hoping that justice will prevail.
